چکیده

The management of pain, stiffness and weakness of the wrist following unsuccessful conservative treatment of fractures of the scaphoid or of Kienb#{246}ck’s disease is a difficult problem. The result of excision of the affected bone is unpredictable and arthrodesis is a major procedure which leaves a disability. To avoid these disadvantages Stamm (1944) suggested arthroplasty of the wrist by excising the proximal row of the carpal bones, and the present review is a follow-up study ofpatients who have had thisoperation. The scaphoid, lunate and triquetral bones, and the radial styloid are removed through a mid-line incision on the dorsal surface of the wrist. Active but not passive exercises are begun after two weeks and rehabilitation takes about two to three months.

A comparative study of the surgical procedures to treat advanced Kienböck's disease.

We have treated a total of 16 cases of advanced Kienböck's disease, stage III and IV by Lichtman's classification, with triscaphe fusion, tendon ball replacement arthroplasty after excision of lunate, proximal row carpectomy as a salvage procedure and limited wrist fusion, since 1985. All cases were followed for minimal 16 months after each operation. Tendon ball replacement arthroplasty after ...

Osteochondral resurfacing with proximal row carpectomy: 8-year follow-up.

Degenerative arthrosis of the proximal row remains a challenging problem for both patients and surgeons. Proximal row carpectomy is a motion-preserving treatment option, with studies documenting acceptable long-term outcomes. Proximal row carpectomy is an attractive option because there is no need for fusion to occur between the carpal bones, as in 4-corner fusion. As a result, laborers and smo...

Wrist Joint Reconstruction With a Vascularized Fibula Free Flap Following Giant Cell Tumor Excision in the Distal Radius

OBJECTIVE Multiple therapeutic modalities exist for giant cell tumors (GCT) in the distal radius. The majority of GCTs are amenable to curettage, with the expanded lesions requiring a more radical approach. This case report examines the technique of managing a GCT that has extended beyond the boundaries of the cortex and into local tissues. The decision to use arthroplasty versus arthrodesis an...

A Complex Variations in the Rout and Branches of Radial Artrey

Radial artrey is one of the two terminal branches of brachial artery. It descends along the lateral side of the foream to the wrist where it curls posterolaterally round the carpus, deep to the snuff box, to reach the proximal end of the first intermetcarpal space where it dips in the palm and crosses medially to form the deep palmar arch with the deep branch of the ulnar artery. In the process...
